By John Crofts | April 15, 2025
The Davis County Commission held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the County Administration Building in Farmington. The meeting was chaired by Commission Chair Lorene Kamalu, with Commissioners John Crofts and Bob Stevenson in attendance. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Bill Campbell of Syracuse, who also offered public comment expressing appreciation for Davis County’s sense of community, safety, and well-managed parks.
The Commission addressed a wide range of business and community support items, approving sponsorship agreements with CenterPoint Legacy Theatre and the Bountiful Davis Art Center to support local arts programming throughout 2025. In a joint effort to expand access to services, the Commission also approved a $25,000 Social Services Block Grant for the Davis Links program—aimed at supporting community health and social well-being.
Two agreements were approved to implement and support Salesforce CRM software for improved customer service across departments. Commissioner Crofts commented that these kinds of tools improve efficiency and responsiveness to residents.
Facilities and infrastructure were also a focus, with the Commission approving an amendment with Layton Construction Company to move forward with additional upgrades to the exhibit building and resolve power delays. Importantly, the costs were covered under the existing contingency budget.
In the health sector, the Commission approved over $780,000 in Medicaid Aging Waiver funding, allowing aging residents to receive care and remain in their homes. Commissioner Kamalu noted that aging in place has been shown to improve health outcomes and reduce costs. Additionally, the Health Department will receive professional marketing support through a contract with RUMOR Advertising to boost outreach for programs like Davis Links.
The Commission also approved agreements related to animal care, youth sports, suicide prevention, and food handler training, highlighting the county’s broad focus on health, safety, and family services.
In closing remarks, Commissioner Kamalu shared her experience at the Utah Board of Health Symposium, praising the leadership of Board Chair and Layton Mayor Joy Petro and acknowledging the statewide recognition of Davis County’s best practices in public health. She stated, “It was gratifying to see other counties learning from the great work happening here.”
The meeting adjourned at 10:15 AM following a review of the property tax register during the Board of Equalization session. The next evening Commission meeting—part of a trial program initiated by Commissioner Crofts to expand public engagement—will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:00 PM.
