By John Crofts | April 8, 2025
The Davis County Commission held its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 6:00 PM at the County Administration Building in Farmington. The evening meeting is part of a pilot program initiated by Commissioner John Crofts to enhance public engagement and accessibility. As part of this effort, the Commission will hold evening meetings on the second Tuesday of April, May, and June on a trial basis. Commissioner Crofts served as Chair Pro Tem in the absence of Commission Chair Lorene Kamalu, who participated via telephone. Commissioner Bob Stevenson was also in attendance.
Commissioner Crofts opened the meeting by emphasizing the importance of trying new ways to invite more community involvement. Public comment echoed that sentiment, with citizens expressing appreciation for the convenience of evening access to county government.
A powerful moment of the evening came as County Attorney Troy Rawlings publicly recognized members of his Investigative Bureau, praising their unmatched professionalism and impact on child protection efforts throughout Davis County. Rawlings introduced a team of seasoned law enforcement professionals, including Captain Brent Baggs and Lieutenants John Herndon, Drake Ham, Brian Purdy, and Tim Cottrell, all of whom now serve under Bureau Chief Craig Webb.
With over 161 combined years of law enforcement experience, Rawlings noted that the team has played a critical role in more than 1,000 arrests and prosecutions tied to child exploitation and trafficking. Their work with the FBI and Homeland Security Task Forces, as well as their contributions to jury trials and specialty courts, has earned them national recognition—including the prestigious Bud Cramer Award.
Commissioners joined in honoring the team. “What you’ve accomplished in protecting Davis County’s children is nothing short of extraordinary,” said Commissioner Crofts. “You represent the best of public service.” Commissioner Kamalu, calling in remotely, added her heartfelt thanks and praised the office’s consistency in delivering justice with integrity and compassion.
Other items addressed in the meeting included the approval of a contract for printing voter materials, expanded cyber insurance coverage, and agreements supporting public safety, recreation, and substance abuse monitoring.
Evening Commission meetings will continue on a trial basis through June, occurring on the second Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM. Commissioner Crofts encouraged residents to attend and engage with county government.
