Davis County Recognizes Service, Approves Land Sale and Security Contracts in June 3 Meeting
Farmington, Utah – June 3, 2025 — The Davis County Commission gathered for its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday morning, where they honored dedicated public employees and advanced agreements that impact public services, infrastructure, and community development.
Employee Service Awards Take Center Stage
The meeting opened with recognition of 15 county employees celebrating service milestones ranging from 5 to 35 years. Several Health Department staff members—including Ayla Guarino and Bailey House—were praised for their leadership during COVID-19 response and emergency preparedness planning. Ivy Melton Sales was honored for her 30 years of service, and Mike Moake was celebrated for 15 years helping grow the Western Sports Park into a major regional attraction. Emotional highlights included stories of innovation, resilience, and dedication across departments.
County Property Sale & Federal Grant Application Approved
Commissioners approved the upcoming sale of surplus county property—Tax ID 12-037-0092—to the Utah Department of Transportation, which may support future expansion of the West Davis Highway. The sale follows planning and approval from the county’s Property Committee.
Also approved was a $5 million grant application through HUD’s Continuum of Care (CoC Builds) program. If awarded, the funds would support housing and homeless service efforts and require a 25% match from other federal resources.
Western Sports Park Lands Apparel Deal
A unique in-kind sponsorship was approved with Champion, a clothing company. In exchange for $8,000 worth of branded apparel for staff, the company will receive signage and promotion within the Western Sports Park. Commissioners praised the agreement for saving taxpayer dollars while boosting professional image.
Sheriff’s Office Finalizes Nearly $2.6M in Contracts
Multiple agreements were greenlit for law enforcement services and dispatch coverage, including:
- $1.28 million with Utah Courts for bailiff/security services
- $355,000 for policing in South Weber
- $135,000 for dispatch services in Syracuse
- $821,000 for dispatching with Utah Highway Patrol (UHP), with a correction updating payment to go through the County Controller
Volunteer and Senior Services Programs Supported
The Commission approved several MOUs supporting volunteer engagement at Antelope Island, Davis School District, and senior centers. A short-term senior employment training program with EasterSeals Goodwill was also approved.
Commissioners Reflect on Civic Duty
Commissioner John Crofts announced the County’s third evening Commission meeting trial, highlighting strong turnout and community appreciation. Chair Lorene Kamalu concluded the session with a quote from George Washington, urging reflection and gratitude for the sacrifices behind the freedoms citizens enjoy today.
