Davis County Commission Approves Land, Health, and Library Projects in May 27 Meeting

The Davis County Commission held its regularly scheduled public meeting on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with Commissioners Lorene Kamalu and Bob Stevenson in attendance. Vice Chair John Crofts was excused. The Commission covered a wide range of items affecting infrastructure, health services, libraries, and tourism across the county.
Honoring Colonel Michael Gette
The meeting began with a proclamation declaring May 29, 2025, as “Colonel Michael L. Gette Day” in Davis and Weber Counties, recognizing his induction into the prestigious Order of the Western Big Hat.
Investments in Health and Public Facilities
Commissioners approved multiple agreements to expand and improve health and senior services, including a $625,625 agreement with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services to provide targeted case management for early childhood development and a $218,114 outreach contract tied to Medicaid support.
The Commission also accepted a small property transfer from Clearfield City to consolidate land for the Davis County Health Department campus and ratified a letter of intent to explore acquiring an adjacent building.
Library Bond and Infrastructure Updates
The Commission approved a resolution to authorize the sale of up to $6.2 million in sales tax revenue bonds to support the South Davis County Library project. Jonathan Ward of Zions Public Finance explained that the bonds would be offered directly to select investors, with expected flexibility and potential refinancing options.
To supplement library operations, the Commission also renewed agreements with Mango Languages and the Utah Education and Telehealth Network to ensure discounted and accessible digital services through 2030.
Tourism and Facility Enhancements
Commissioners approved a $2.1 million construction contract to upgrade airwalls at the Davis Conference Center and a separate agreement to enhance Valley View Golf Course traffic flow.
In tourism, over $16,000 in agreements were approved for Bird Festival transportation and other public events, including a Snowmobile Snow Show and a USA Floorball Training Camp.
Appointments and Community Partnerships
The Board reappointed several individuals to the Davis County Senior Services Advisory Council and welcomed Dr. Candice Smith to the Board of Health, ensuring continued medical expertise in county public health decisions.
An MOU was also signed with the Purple Tie Gala Committee to support individuals and families affected by dementia.
