Farmington, UT — September 16, 2025
The Davis County Commission met Tuesday morning for its regular meeting, approving agreements that highlight both community service and fiscal oversight.

One of the most notable actions came when the Commission unanimously approved a no-fee rental agreement with the Davis Education Foundation for use of the Western Sports Park on December 3. The Foundation will host its annual fundraiser to support homeless and at-risk students in the Davis School District.

Ginger Coulm, speaking on behalf of the Foundation, explained that the nonprofit currently serves more than 1,300 vulnerable students and has helped establish ten teen centers across the county. These centers provide showers, laundry facilities, food, and study spaces. The December fundraiser will specifically support the “Grab and Go” program, which supplies protein-rich, ready-to-eat meals for students, including about 100 unaccompanied minors living in unstable conditions.

Chief Deputy Civil Attorney Neal Geddes praised the initiative, noting last year’s fundraiser raised nearly $12,000, producing 1,500 food kits and distributing 340 gift cards to struggling students. “It’s about raising awareness and showing our high school students that their peers need food and shelter,” Geddes said.

Commissioners agreed that moving the event from the Davis Conference Center in Layton to the Western Sports Park would make it more accessible to the community.

The meeting also included public comments from the League of Women Voters, announcing a series of upcoming “Meet the Candidates” nights in nine cities across Davis County to encourage voter registration and civic engagement.

In other business, the Commission:

  • Approved $13.7 million in pass-through funding for Davis Behavioral Health services.
  • Held a public hearing on federal housing block grants, reporting more than 3,200 low- to moderate-income residents benefited from county-supported projects last year.
  • Approved contracts for upcoming events at the Western Sports Park, including gymnastics, soccer, and community sales shows.

In closing remarks, Commissioner John Crofts thanked the League of Women Voters for promoting his upcoming town hall on transparency, scheduled for September 18 in Farmington. He also emphasized the importance of restoring local news coverage in Davis County to improve public oversight of government decisions.

The meeting adjourned at 10:29 a.m.
